GRAND KNIGHT REPORT
William Renton, Jr. 727-1187

Brothers,
Our Annual Lenten Fish Fries have been to date a great success.
As of this writing we have completed four with one more for this
Friday. We have had tremendous participation from members of
our council who have worked the events and we have served more
dinners than ever. We have made over $10,000 and still have one
more event. We will have a crawfish boil as usual to celebrate
the conclusion of our Lenten program and will notify you of the
date by e-mail.
The Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring a Team Trivia Knight on April
17 at 6 p.m. in the Cafeteria at OLL. This event is $10 per
person and will include a meatball and spaghetti dinner with
salad and French bread, desserts and a soda. The games will
include team trivial pursuit which will be played by small teams
of 6 to 8 people. This should be a good time and I encourage
you to support our Ladies in their fund raising effort. They
are always there for our parish and we need to make sure to
support them.
Mark your calendars for the night of May 7, when our council
will host an appreciation dinner for the Priest and Deacons of
our Parish during the Year of the Priest. We will have a full
meal at N’tini’s near the entrance to Meadowbrook on Hwy 190
consisting of a soup, one of three entrees, dessert, tea and
coffee; with a cash bar should you choose to indulge. Come
enjoy the company of our religious while showing our deep
appreciation for what they do for all of us. The price will be
$30 per person and you should pay by check to Pat Wilkerson when
making your reservations before April 30. Pat’s address is 2051
Ponderosa Place, Mandeville, La. 70448, telephone number
727-1278. Call him if you have questions.
The Taste of Tammany will be held this year on April 24 and your
gumbo team is stepping up to prepare our world renowned gumbo.
Make plans to attend this parish fund raising event and pass a
good time.
A situation has arisen with so much publicity in the paper about
sexual abuse of Children that Fr. John and the Archdioceses are
requiring us to fill out the forms and be cleared in order to
work at the fare, work at the soccer or free throw contest and
of course our signature program, the Children’s Christmas
Shopping Spree. Tom Biggio and I met with Father John on
Saturday and we both agree that we have to comply with this
policy. Your participation is required if we are going to have
a viable youth program.
Our Knights of the Month is Mike Boyd, and our Family of the
Month is Paul and Linda Bondor. Both of these members stepped
up and were heavily involved in our Council’s activities,
specifically the fish fries. Mike is one of the men in our two
and a half man cooking team for our council meals.
Vivat Jesus!

Any Knight interested in heading a committee for the Council
this year please contact me. If you are a 3rd degree Knight and
are interested in running for an elected position, let either
Bill Renton or me know. Nominations will take place at the
April 19th Council meeting and elections during the May 17th
Council Meeting.
All Committee Chairmen, your reports are due in the hands of
State by April 5th. I have available extra copies of the
completed reports from last year and the reports that need to be
completed and mailed this year. Call me if you need either.
Finish your report right away then let me know. I will meet you
to pick it up. Bill and I will review them prior to mailing.
The OLL Men’s Club is sponsoring a golf tournament at Tchefuncte
Friday, April 9th at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $100 per player so
check your church bulletin from two weeks ago, contact the Men’s
Club, or call Pat Wilkerson for further information.
Want an enjoyable night out and for only $10 a person? The
Lady’s Auxiliary is sponsoring a pasta meal and Trivia Night at
6:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17th. There is a treat for the
winning team.
The Council will have the quarterly Corporal Mass for Knights
and their Families on Sunday, April 25th at 9:00 a.m. in the
Chotin Center. Plan to attend. The front three rows will be
reserved for Knights and families.
Vivat Jesus!
May God bless you and your families,
Wes

My Brother Knights,
Our Council’s Lenten Fish Fry
has been an excellent source of recruiting for new members. I’d
like to personally thank those of you that have referred your
friends to learn about our organization. A special thank you
goes to Mike Bernard for his idea to set up a recruiting table
at the entrance. Our recruiting efforts must continue
throughout the year. As we continue to pare down our inactive
members, we are short of our Council’s recruiting goal for this
fraternal year. Encourage your friends to attend our Monday
meetings for dinner and a rosary to learn what we as Knights
contribute not only to our Parish but the community we live
in. Remember, each new member you recruit will earn award
points redeemable for Knights of Columbus merchandise. I look
forward to your support.
Vivat Jesus!

CHURCH DIRECTOR

Brother Knights,
The month of March is noteworthy
for both the Knights of Columbus and our Council.
On
March 29, 1882 the Knights of
Columbus was first chartered in the State of Connecticut. On
March 6, 1986, our Council 9240 received its charter. On March
25 we celebrate both the feast of the Annunciation and the Day
of the Unborn Child.
On Good Friday, April 2, Council 9240, as in past years,
will provide cheese pizzas and drinks for altar servers, some
30
in number, who will assist in the Good Friday ceremony.
During the month of April our council will be publicly
honoring the altar servers
With certificates of appreciation at a school mass, at a
7:30
P.M. Sunday Mass, and at a third time, date, and place to be
decided, for those in CCD.
Now we’ll pray for Fr. McGivney’s canonization.
Vivat Jesus!

One of our biggest
fund raisers, the Friday Night Lenten Fish Fries, seems to be
doing well, thanks to the support of all those involved, either
working or buying. We couldn’t do it without every one of you.
This is only ONE of the many activities of Our Lady of the
Lake Knights of Columbus Council 9240. There are a number of
larger, or no less important smaller, events that you can
participate in, if you desire to be active in the Council. EVERY
event we sponsor is open to all who wish to take part, no one
will be refused.
If you have an idea on how we can raise money to support
our charities and/or better the Council please attend the
Officers meeting and let your idea be heard, if there is a way
it can be worked out in the Council it will be brought before
the general membership for their approval. This is not done to
discredit or refuse an idea, it is to refine it before it goes
to the general membership for their ideas and suggestions on how
to improve or implement it. Every thing we do today started
exactly the same way.
The Officers Meeting is held the FIRST Monday of each
month, at 7:30 pm in the Council Hall, and is open to all 9240
Council members in good standing. Come let YOUR ideas and
suggestions be heard. We are always looking for ways to improve
and better our Council. You might just have what we have been
looking for. Share it with us.
Vivat Jesus!
Fraternally,
Al
Please keep my wife

AN ECONOMIC MUST
Do you have seat belts in your car? Of course you do!
Aren’t you certain that you have one for every member of your
family? Would you buy an automobile that only provided one
“belt” -----that being for you?
But would believe that family after family with whom I
visit are running along with one “belt” of insurance on the
father. Somehow, the common opinion seems to be that death will
strike only the father, not the mother.
Today, insuring your wife’s life is an economic must. With
“wife” insurance, should death occur, you have a fighting chance
to retain at least a semblance of a home for your children.
Call me today to discuss these needs.
VIVAT JESUS!
Len
